Crazy

Some of you know that I am fascinated by a lot of things and ask unrelated questions out of the blue. Some of you want to know how my brain works, me too. There is one subject I have been thinking and talking about for a while now, and that is this social world that we have created.

I have the freedom to shave or not, although hardly any girl would feel this freedom, or even think about this as a choice. Personally I do not like things that are expected from me, I want to choose whatever I think is best. And in most cases that is against the social expectations of my environment.

It is logical that we have social expectations, that makes life easier. We agree on values and norms, in order to avoid conflicts. The problem for me, however, is that these expectations are based on commercially created values. Companies seeking for profit telling us what to buy and in this way changing our habits. So not based on what is best for us, our health or environment. Think about this:
Most people have about ten bottles of cleaning products, to clean a specific corner in your house. Soda is sufficient, but that you only need to buy once a year. And who came up with the idea that all products should be perfumed? Who would have guessed that hair on the female bodies would be weird? Whereas that we need creams, make-up and lotions. Then, why are men not wearing dresses? Why do we keep buying clothes? Why do we use shower gel or shampoo? When did we start using disposable products (coffee cups, plastic bags, razors, tampons)?

There are many things I do not understand. I understand that someone came up with these ideas, what I do not understand is that so many people started to act like this. Is it a free choice? It sneaked into our lives, and nobody seems to question it. Let us once again make decisions, to use or not use, consciously.

Consumerism is buying things we don’t need, even though we know that, we still buy whatever shops sell. Striking is that it is even taking over our perception of bodies. To conclude, check out this article:
